THE HIGHER TASTE

Prune Braided Bread.

Ingredients.
3/4 cup lukewarm water
1 teaspoon sugar
2 packages yeast
1 cup yogourt
1/3 cup sugar
2/3 teaspoon salt
4 1/2 cups flour
1 1/3 cup butter

Filling
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2/3 cup chopped cooked prunes
1 1/3 cups chopped apples
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water

Preparation.
Combine the water, teaspoon of sugar and yeast. Let yeast mixture stand for 10 minutes. In a large bowl add yogourt, 1/3 cup sugar, 2/3 teaspoon salt, flour and butter. Make a well in the middle of flour, add yogourt mixture. Cut in butter. Add yeast mixture. Knead well.

Cover with damp cloth. Chill for 2 hours. Divide dough in half, roll to a 9x14 rectangle.

Transfer to greased baking sheet. Slash sides. Add filling to centre and braid slashes sides. Let rise for 30 minutes. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

To make the filling, mix all ingredients, then boil until thick. Cool
